The TE37 SAGA SL project began in early 2020. The prototype passed its benchmark test as development of the TE37 SAGA S-plus was nearly complete, and after vehicle testing and a win in the Super Taikyu Series 24-hour race, full development began.

While the SAGA S-plus became the wheel used in Super Taikyu, with a design focused on fitting a wide range of vehicles, the SAGA SL sticks to the original SL formula: lighter weight than existing models, the TE37 racing concave, and diamond-cut machining.
