Frequently Asked Questions: Koyorad Performance Radiators
What makes Koyo (Koyorad) Performance Radiators better than OEM?
Koyorad Performance Radiators feature an all-aluminum construction with high-density cores. Unlike factory radiators that use plastic end tanks (which are prone to cracking and leaking over time), Koyorad radiators are fully TIG-welded aluminum. This design significantly improves heat dissipation, increases coolant capacity, and provides maximum durability for both street driving and track days.
Are Koyo Performance Radiators a direct plug-and-play fit?
Yes! Koyorad designs their performance radiators to factory specifications for a true drop-in installation. They are engineered to utilize your factory mounting points, fan shrouds, and hoses without requiring any major modifications or custom fabrication.
Do I need to buy a new radiator cap with my Koyorad radiator?
Most Koyorad All-Aluminum Performance Radiators do not include a radiator cap, and they often require a Koyorad-specific cap (such as the Koyorad SK-C13 or similar) due to differences in the filler neck size compared to OEM. Please check the specific product description to see if you need to add a Koyorad radiator cap to your order.
Will a Koyorad Aluminum Radiator work with my Automatic Transmission?
The majority of Koyorad's all-aluminum performance radiators are designed specifically for Manual Transmissions, as they do not feature the built-in transmission cooler lines found in automatic OEM radiators. If you have an automatic transmission, you will typically need to install an external transmission cooler to use a manual Koyorad performance radiator.
What kind of coolant should I use with my new Koyorad radiator?
We highly recommend using a high-quality, OEM-spec anti-freeze mixed with distilled water (usually a 50/50 mix). Never use tap water, as the minerals can cause corrosion and scale buildup inside the aluminum core, which will void the warranty and reduce cooling efficiency.
Do Koyorad radiators come with a warranty?
Yes, Koyorad offers a limited warranty against manufacturer defects. To ensure the warranty remains valid, the radiator must be installed properly, and the cooling system must be flushed and filled with the correct mix of distilled water and premium coolant.
