Radium Fuel Hanger Surge Tank (FHST), Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R

The Radium Engineering FHST (Fuel Hanger Surge Tank) is the definitive solution for fuel starvation on the Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R. Fuel slosh under aggressive driving creates unstable fuel pressure and lean conditions that can cause catastrophic engine damage. While a stand-alone surge tank is an effective solution, installation is typically complex. The Radium FHST eliminates this complexity by integrating a fully functional surge tank directly inside the OEM fuel tank — configurable with 1, 2, or 3 high-pressure surge pumps and 1 lift pump to meet the fuel demands of any power level.

No grinding, bending, or permanent modification of the vehicle is required. The system is fully compatible with E85 and all alternative fuel types. A replacement OEM Nissan fuel level sensor with the correct resistance range is included to ensure the factory gauge cluster operates correctly.

Note: Fuel pumps are not included and must be purchased separately.

How the Surge Tank Stays Full

Three independent sources keep the surge tank full at all times — even during aggressive cornering, braking, and acceleration:

1. Lift pump via stainless steel collector box — A stainless steel collector box secures to the fuel tank floor. It features a 1-way trap door to control slosh and prevent lift pump starvation. The lift pump sends fuel into the lower portion of the surge tank via intricate tangential machining that creates laminar flow — preventing foaming and aeration.
2. FPR return fuel — Returning fuel from the fuel pressure regulator fills the surge tank through a diverging deflector that prevents foaming and aeration.
3. Dual 1-way fill valves — Two integrated 1-way fill valves in the lower surge tank allow fuel in but not out, supplying 355LPH each (710LPH total).

Plumbing

Pre-installed barb fittings permit direct connection to the factory fuel hoses — no extra fuel plumbing required for a standard installation. Additionally, 8AN (feed) and 6AN (return) adapter fittings are provided for aftermarket -AN style hose connections. All fitting ports are machined low enough to clear the unibody sheet metal.

All kits come partially assembled — final assembly is performed during installation. Each kit includes enough hardware to run 1, 2, or 3 surge tank pumps and 1 lift pump. Fuel pumps must be supplied separately. Compatible pumps:

Mixed Brushed + Brushless Pump Strategy

A popular approach is to combine brushed and brushless pumps. For a mixed configuration, the following parts are recommended (quantities depend on number of pumps used):

Electrical

Bulkhead connections: Custom stainless steel electrical studs handle the high current demands of multiple fuel pumps. Connections are hermetically sealed and impervious to all standard and exotic fuels. Non-conductive anodised aluminium acorn nuts prevent accidental short circuiting. The top hat accommodates the lift pump plus up to 3 surge pumps (including brushless).

External wiring: The OEM external fuel pump wiring is sufficient for the lift pump (now operating at low pressure / high flow). High current wiring for one FHST surge pump is included (1 relay, 1 fuse, and all associated wiring and hardware). For additional surge pumps, purchase Radium 17-0031 DIY Wiring Kit for each additional pump.

Fuel level sensor: A replacement OEM Nissan fuel level sensor with the correct resistance range is included — ensuring the factory gauge cluster reads correctly. The original low fuel switch is reused.

In-tank wiring: All in-tank wiring is insulated with chemically resistant ETFE. Electrical hardware is included for all fuel pumps and sensors.
