The TE37 SAGA SL project began in early 2020. The prototype passed RAYS benchmark testing as development of the TE37 SAGA S-plus was nearing completion, and after vehicle testing and a win in the Super Taikyu Series 24-hour race, full-scale development began.

While the SAGA S-plus became the wheel used for Super Taikyu racing, with a design aimed at fitting a wide range of vehicles, the TE37 SAGA SL sticks to the original SL series formula: lighter weight than existing models, the TE37 racing concave, and diamond-cut machining with a clear black finish that symbolises the lightness of the SL.
