Radium Saddle Tank Fuel Cell Conversion Kit

The Radium Engineering 20-0664 Saddle Tank Fuel Cell Conversion Kit is a fuel transfer system that lets two motorsport fuel cells run together in one vehicle — increasing fuel carrying capacity while improving weight distribution.

Because the load is split across two cells, they can be mounted strategically for optimal weight distribution and a low centre of gravity. The system works with both standard and dry break refuelling.

Required Components

• Two Radium Engineering fuel cells — different capacities can be used, but the top flanges of both cells must be mounted at the same height.
• A Radium Engineering FCST-X — earlier FCST (non-X) models are not compatible, as they lack the lift pump access (FCST-X handle).
• Minimum of 3 fuel pumps — 2 lift pumps and 1 surge tank pump. Lift pumps must have check valves built into their outlets; pumps without them can back-feed and cause operational failures.
• Remote filler and vent kit, or remote mount refuelling kit — 1.5" ID tubing is included, so any remote mount filler with a 1.5" OD barb will work.

Recommended Components

• One or two Radium fuel level senders — if using one, install it in the active cell; two are recommended. Two 0–90 ohm Radium senders wired in series create a 0 (empty) – 180 (full) ohm range. Wired to independent inputs on a programmable ECU, the passive-side sender can also switch the passive lift pump off when that cell is empty.
• Radium 20-0461 Fuel Level Switch — installs in the 1/8" NPT port on the underside plate of the surge tank. It can trigger a relay or ECU input to switch the active-side lift pump off when the surge tank is full.
