The New M2 G87 AWE Tuning Exhaust System

The BMW S58 is already an impressive engine, but the right exhaust system can transform the way it sounds and feels. AWE Tuning’s exhaust range for the BMW M2, M3 and M4 is designed to deliver a deeper, more aggressive note without sacrificing refinement on the road.

AWE SwitchPath™ Valved Exhaust

The AWE SwitchPath™ Exhaust combines patented 180 Technology® with a precision-engineered valved muffler. The result is a system designed to reduce drone, minimise unnecessary bends and maximise exhaust flow, while still giving you the freedom to change the car’s character at the press of a button.

Built from 3-inch, U.S.-sourced T304L stainless steel, the system features a precision X-pipe and a SwitchPath™ muffler tuned specifically for the S58. Starting after the factory mid-pipe, the X-pipe helps smooth out rasp and adds depth to the exhaust note before the sound is refined through the rear muffler.

When the valves are closed

With the valves closed, the SwitchPath™ delivers a refined yet assertive exhaust note. It stays full-bodied and powerful under throttle without becoming metallic or congested, while cruising acoustics remain close to stock with no unwanted drone.

The system is also calibrated to work naturally with the BMW G87’s different transmission settings and shift points. Keep the valves closed for a composed daily-driving experience, or open the throttle and let the exhaust produce the clear, aggressive character expected from an M car.

When the valves are open

Open the valves and the S58’s voice becomes much more pronounced. Sport and Sport+ modes create a sharper contrast with Comfort driving, delivering a powerful and aggressive tone when you want it. Sport+ adds the entertaining burbles many BMW enthusiasts look for, while the precision X-pipe helps keep rasp under control.

For drivers who want clean aggression without constant drone, the SwitchPath™ offers a strong balance of everyday usability and full-performance character. It also retains the factory valve behaviour and is designed with emissions compliance in mind.

AWE Track Edition Exhaust

The AWE Track Edition uses the same attention to detail and performance-focused engineering as the SwitchPath™ system, but replaces the valved rear muffler with a non-valved design. In practical terms, it gives you a permanent valve-open experience with a more direct and rowdy exhaust note.

The Track Edition also saves approximately 13 lb compared with the factory system. It is supplied with AWE valve simulators to accommodate the factory exhaust valve motors, helping avoid warning lights and keeping the vehicle’s ECU happy.

AWE states that the Track Edition is 50-state legal, like the SwitchPath™ system. It is worth noting that this version can become very loud, particularly in Sport+ mode, and may be too aggressive for some drivers. Because sound preference is subjective, AWE does not accept returns for this system based solely on its sound level.

Non-Resonated Performance Mid-Pipes

For even more aggression, AWE’s Non-Resonated Performance Mid-Pipes replace the factory mid-section with two 3-inch pipes. They can be paired with either the SwitchPath™ or Track Edition Exhaust, allowing the more aggressive exhaust character to begin immediately behind the factory secondary catalysts.

Important fitment notes

• AWE’s Non-Resonated Performance Mid-Pipes are designed to work with AWE Exhausts only. Due to differences in cut points and exhaust configurations, fitment with another manufacturer’s exhaust is not guaranteed.
• AWE Exhausts include inlet adapters to connect to the factory mid-section. These adapters are not required when pairing AWE Mid-Pipes with the SwitchPath™ or Track Edition Exhaust.
• AWE Exhausts are not guaranteed to mate with another manufacturer’s mid-pipes because cut points can vary between systems.
• AWE Exhausts are confirmed to fit all factory valances.

Which AWE system is right for you?

Choose the SwitchPath™ if you want a flexible system that can stay refined during everyday driving and become aggressive when the valves open. Choose the Track Edition if maximum sound, a permanent valve-open character and weight reduction are the priority. Add the Non-Resonated Performance Mid-Pipes when you want to push the sound and aggression further.
